Range

Sw. Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea;
Breeds in s. New Zealand along the w. coast of South Island in a 30km stretch between Barrytown and Greymouth or Punakaiki in n. Westland. Nests only in densely forested areas near Punakaiki River.
Disperses to waters surrounding New Zealand (North and South Islands), into the Tasman Sea as far as se. Tasmania and se. Australia (New South Wales, Victoria and e. South Australia) as well as e. into the c. Pacific Ocean along a narrow band around 40°S to at least 150°W.
