Range

Circumpolar; Southern Ocean; Anarctica ;
Breeds on the coasts and inland mountains of Antarctica and adjacent is. n. to 62°S including Prydz Bay off Mac Robertson Land (Scullin Monolith) and Princess Elizabeth Land (Rauer Is.), the Ross Sea Sector, Dronning Maud Land (Svarthamaren and Muhlig-Hoffman Mountains), Queen Mary Land (Haswell Is.), Wilkes Land (Windmill Is.), King George V Land (Cape Hunter), King George VII Land (Rockefeller Mountains and Mt. Paterson) and Coats Land (Theron Mountains and Mt. Faraday).
Disperses n. to 48°S to 55°S in cold Antarctic waters bordering the pack ice. Some birds move further n. to the Antarctic Convergence. N. limits of dispersal are: 49°S to 52°S in the s. Atlantic Ocean, 48°S to 50°S in the s. Indian Ocean and 48° to 55°S in the s. Pacific Ocean.
