Worldwide; Tropical seas; C. Atlantic Ocean; N. Indian Ocean and c. Pacific Ocean;
Two populations;
Breeds in the Atlantic Ocean on the Azores (Santa Maria), Madeira (Cima, Baixo), Desertas, Salvage, Canary (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Montana Clara), Cape Verde Is. (Branco, Razo, Rombos). In the Pacific Ocean on is. off se. China (Fukien), Taiwan, Ryukyu, Volcano, Bonin, Marquesas, Johnston, w. Hawaiian Is. (small islets around main is., Kaula, Lehua, Nihoa, Necker, French Frigate Shoals, Gardner Pinnacles, Laysan, Midway, Pearl, Hermes Reefs), Kiribati (Phoenix Is.) and Marquesas.
Disperses into the w. and s. Atlantic Ocean in the vicinity of West Indies (Lesser Antilles), off ne. Brazil, w. Africa (Gambia to Liberia, the Gulf of Guinea) and into c. and e. Pacific Ocean off s. Japan (Ryukyu Is.), s. China (Fukien, Kwangtung), Taiwan, the Society Is., the Philippines, the East China Sea, New Guinea, nw. Borneo, Java and Indian Ocean to the Maldives.
