Range

Circumpolar; S. and e. Pacific, s. Atlantic, s. Indian and Southern Oceans;
(1) Breeds on the Falkland Is. (Steeple Jason and Grand Jason), South Georgia, Kerguelen, Crozet, Heard, MacDonald, Snares, Antipodes, Macquarie and is. off Chile (Diego de Almagro, Evout, Ildefonso, Diego Ramirez and off Evangelistas at the w. entrance to the Straits of Magellan) and Argentina (Isla de los Estados or Staten Is.).
Disperses in s. oceans from Cape Horn (n. along the w. coast of South America to Peru and Chile and along the e. coast to Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil n. to Bahia) and the se. Atlantic and sw. Indian Oceans off s. Africa (Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique and se. Madagascar) to the se. Indian Ocean and the Antipodes.
(2) Breeds on a single tiny islet off n. and w. Campbell Is.
Dispersal restricted to the s. Pacific from about 23°S, but mainly from 43°S to 70°S, off s. Australia (sw. Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales off Eden and Wollongong), Tasmania and New Zealand s. to the coast of Antarctica in the Australasian sector of the Southern Ocean and the Ross Sea.
