Range

N. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds mainly in the w. Hawaiian and Leeward Is. (Kure, Laysan, Midway, Lisianski, Gardner Pinnacles, French Frigate Shoals, Necker, and Nihoa Is., Pearl and Hermes Reef, recently on Kilauea Point and Barking Sands, Kauai, Niihau, Kaena Point, Oahu and Moku Manu off Oahu) and the Bonin (Ogasawara) Is. Very recently it has colonized Revillagigedo Is. (Clarion Is. off the s. Baja, Mexico) and in 1986, Guadalupe Is. Formerly bred on Izu Ia. (Tori Shima), Marcus, Johnston, and Wake Islands.
Disperses across the n. the Pacific n. to the Bering Sea including the coasts of Japan, Siberia, Alaska, Canada (far offshore), the United States and w. Mexico (Baja). Formerly bred on Torishima (Izu Is.), Marcus, Johnston and Wake Is.
